What We Learned

At first, we believed the answer was simply better education. If practical, high-quality education existed beyond commissioning, surely notaries would become more confident professionals.

So we built it. Foundational education. Business education. State-specific curriculum. Live instruction. Mentorship. Practical implementation. The education made a difference. But another lesson soon emerged.

Information alone wasn't enough.

Professionals don't grow simply because information is available. They grow through continued learning, thoughtful practice, implementation, reflection, and experience over time. 

That realization transformed Notary Academy. We stopped thinking about courses.

We started building a professional development system.

Our Mission 

To help commissioned notaries become confident professionals through continued education, practical implementation, professional judgment, and lifelong learning.

We measure success differently. Not by how many courses someone completes. Not by how long someone remains a member.

But by how confidently and competently they serve the public years after their commission is issued.

Our Educational Philosophy

Everything we build begins with one simple belief.

A commission authorizes the work.

Those two ideas serve different purposes. One grants authority. The other develops professionalism. Knowledge matters. Understanding the law matters. Knowing proper procedure matters. But professional growth doesn't end there. The situations that challenge notaries rarely arrive exactly as they appeared in training. 

Professional judgment develops when education is combined with implementation, reflection, continued learning, and real-world experience. That is why professional judgment sits at the center of everything we teach. We are not preparing people simply to know the rules.

We are helping professionals learn how to apply them thoughtfully when real life doesn't fit neatly inside a textbook.

State Approval

Notary Academy is approved by the California Secretary of State to provide California's required notary education.

That approval applies specifically to California's commissioning requirements.

Our broader professional development national programs extend far beyond those minimum requirements and are designed to support commissioned notaries throughout their careers, regardless of where they practice.

Our Standards

Professional standards are not maintained accidentally.

Every curriculum we develop is researched, reviewed, updated, and refined as laws, technology, and professional practice evolve.

State-specific curriculum is developed independently for each state. Professional principles remain national. State law remains state-specific.

We distinguish carefully between law, official guidance, and professional best practice so members understand not only what the rules are, but why they exist. 

When we discover an error, we correct it. When laws change, we update our curriculum. Professional development requires the humility to continue learning. We expect the same from ourselves.

Understanding when a question becomes legal advice—and knowing how to respond professionally—is an important part of what we teach.

We do not issue notary commissions.

Notarial authority is granted by each state's commissioning authority.

While Notary Academy is approved by the California Secretary of State to provide California's required notary education, we do not issue, renew, extend, or influence notary commissions.

We do not guarantee professional outcomes.

We provide education, practical tools, mentorship, and ongoing professional development.

Every member's business is influenced by many factors beyond education alone, including their market, effort, experience, and the opportunities they pursue.

For that reason, we do not guarantee employment, assignments, income, or business results.

Your state remains the final authority.

Notary laws vary from state to state and continue to evolve.

We actively maintain and update our curriculum, but your commissioning authority remains the authoritative source for your state's current laws and requirements.

If you ever discover a conflict between our material and your state's official guidance, we encourage you to let us know so we can review and update our curriculum if necessary.
